Why do you heat the masks to 300°F/150°C?

To sanitize and purify the mask, we slowly pass the finished masks through a very hot conveyer oven.

We do this for your safety before they are delivered to you.

This is the final step we take prior to wrapping your order for shipment.

Where are these fabric masks produced?

Masks by Revelle are MADE IN CANADA, by dedicated people who care deeply about quality.

The masks are carefully crafted with pride in our reliable & modern sewing facility located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Revelle has a reputation of manufacturing world-class fine linens in Canada for over 40 years.

Benjamin J Sperry
Do you make masks that go around the ears?

Yes.

Revelle masks are now made in 3 different options:

1. Masks with head straps

2. Masks with Adjustable elastic earloops

3. Masks with overhead elastic

When we were designing our masks, we tested dozens of options.

We initially chose to create masks with strings that tie behind your neck.

There are 4 reasons why we use strings in our masks:

1. Irritation Behind Ears

We received complaints from nurses and other front-line workers that masks with loops around the ears cause irritation behind the ears. Revelle masks use a soft stripe that loops around the head, and ties at the back of the neck. No need to put stress behind the ears with the Revelle mask.

2. Glasses & Hearing Aids

Masks that loop around the ears are hard to wear with glasses and hearing aids. So we intentionally created a mask that has only 1 tie, behind the neck. Our customers wrote to us that its easy to wear glasses and hearing aids with the Revelle mask.

3. Precise Fit

With this design you can more easily control how the mask fits on the face. You can make it tighter or looser, its up to you. Your skin will also appreciate the soft organic cotton layer of the Revelle mask.

4. Speaking Freely

We believe that wearing a mask should allow you to speak freely with others. But, with many masks on the market - speaking is really difficult while wearing a mask. Many other masks are designed to sit 'flat' on the face, so as soon as you start speaking, the mask will begin sliding down the face or irritate your skin.

With the Revelle mask - you have extra space around the mouth - which makes it easy and natural to speak while wearing the mask.

What is a filter pocket?

All Revelle masks include an inner layer that is made from 100% Organic cotton, for maximum comfort on your skin.

This inner layer also serves as a filter pocket. It can be used to insert an additional filter for added protection.

This filter can be a folded paper towel, a paper napkin, a dried baby wipe, or even a disposable flat PPE face mask. Adding a filter provides a 4th layer of protection. Remember to always remove the filter before washing.

Benjamin J Sperry
Do your masks have a central seam?

Yes, Revelle masks are made with 3 layers of high-thread cotton - each layer is sawn with a central seam.

The top two layers are connected with an overlock seam in between. The 3rd layer (which is made out of 100% organic cotton) isn't sewn to the top two and hence creates another layer of protection.

We spent a long time researching the best way to design a good mask, paying attention to 4 areas:

- Protection
- Comfort
- Durability
- Style

In the process, we have done multiple 'candle blowing' and 'match blowing' tests with various fabrics.

We chose fabrics that provide comfort, and at the same time pass the 'candle blowing' test.

The masks also have an inner pocket that allows inserting an additional layer for protection, if needed.

Benjamin J Sperry
Do your masks have a wire in the nose area?

We have found that using wires on masks that are to be washed many times could be dangerous as the wire can poke through the fabric and cause injury.

Revelle masks do not have a wire to make them durable and safe.

The binding trim on top of Revelle masks and the shape of our masks give it a nice secure fit.

Benjamin J Sperry
Do the strings come out? Can I replace them with an elastic?

Yes.

(Note: as of October 2020, all Revelle masks are available in 3 options: overhead straps, overhead elastic, and adjustable ear loops. You may select yours on any mask page)

If you have purchased a mask with "overhead strings", you may replace the strings with an elastic.

The tie is a long string that can be pulled out.

On one side of the mask we have an elastic corner which is sewn with a little thread.

To take out the string, gently cut the thread with little scissors. Once you remove the thread, the string will come out easily.

Once the string is out, you may insert the elastic loops.

You can order a simple Elastic Mask Conversion Kit.

General

How do masks tie? Do you use elastic or another material?

Revelle masks come in 3 options:

  1. Overhead strap
  2. Overhead elastic
  3. Adjustable ear loops

You may buy your favourite when you view our mask designs.

Overhead Strap

The "overhead strap" masks are made with one string that loops around the head, and ties behind the neck.

One side of the mask includes an elastic corner, which makes the tying more comfortable.

Here are the steps on how to tie the mask:

Our masks don't involve the ears at all and have no elastic in the string.

We've designed our masks without "ear loops" intentionally, so you can wear them for prolonged periods without irritating your ears, nose and lips.

Many of our customers reported that they appreciate the string loop because it doesn't create discomfort behind the ears.

If you choose, you may easily convert your mask to use elastics.

Why should I wear a mask? Who is this mask intended for?
Our masks may be used by anyone.  Our re-usable, washable masks are an alternative to medical grade PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for use by individuals seeking added protection. These fabric masks are non-medical grade and effectively reduce the consumption of medical masks, which are in great demand for hospitals and healthcare workers. By utilizing a fabric mask, you are doing your part in relieving pressure on the current short supply of PPE required for the medical community. Benjamin J Sperry
Is the mask interchangeable with family members? Is it safe to share it?
No. This is a personal, re-usable, and washable mask for only your own safety and protection. We recommend you keep it as your own personal mask and DO NOT SHARE YOUR MASK (clean or otherwise) with other people. Benjamin J Sperry

Materials

What’s the story about the Organic cotton?

Our organic cotton comes from Italy. All components in the process are 100% organic, from the cotton plant to the vegetal dyes used for dying and printing. Only natural agents are used in the finishing process, so the water returned to the planet is very clean and this preserves our environment.

We use Certified Organic cotton for the inner-liner filter pocket.  Also, we have a selection of designs using allover 100% Certified Organic Cotton on all 3 layers of fabric.

Benjamin J Sperry
What kind of fabric is used for your masks?

We make our masks from the best quality high thread count

220TC Percale or 300TC Sateen fabrics woven in the finest fabric mills in Italy, Portugal, Israel, and Spain.

100% Cotton is breathable, more comfortable, stays cool around your face and under your chin, and washes beautifully. Our masks are 3 layers, consisting of 2 fashion layers plus an inner layer next to your face, which is organic cotton.  This is the filter pocket.

Benjamin J Sperry
Does the fabric shrink?
100% cotton fabric will shrink a little bit, so you will notice a very slight difference, however, we design and cut our masks a bit larger to accommodate for this post-laundry sizing. Benjamin J Sperry
How do I wash my mask?

You can wash our masks in the washing machine or by hand.

  • Washing Machine: Use the normal cycle, and put in the dryer or hang to dry in a warm atmosphere or outdoors on the line.
  • By hand: Use soap or detergent in warm or hot water to sanitize your mask. You may add a drop of disinfectant or anti-bacterial cleanser for extra sterilization. Rinse with clear water, wring out, lay flat or hang to dry.

Our customers told us that sunshine is also a great way to dry the masks because the sun’s ultraviolet rays have a disinfecting effect, and the  mask will likely smell fresh and clean.

    Benjamin J Sperry
    Is the mask Washable?
Yes, our mask is fully washable and should be washed after each use. The benefit of our 100% cotton fabric is its ease of care and its quick drying properties. Your mask will be ready for use again after drying.

    Price

Why do these masks cost that much?

We spent a lot of time deciding how to price our products.

It is always a question of quality.

Initially, we wanted to use low-cost fabric, so we can produce the masks at the lowest possible price.

However, after further research, we decided not to compromise on quality and use 3 layers of natural fabric.

Our masks are made with 100% premium cotton.

The inner layer is made from Organic Cotton for maximum comfort on the skin.

Because our masks are made from quality materials - they are very durable and washable.

And of course, we handcraft the masks locally, in Toronto, Canada - keeping our team employed. This naturally makes our product more costly to produce, than those imported from overseas.

For $18.50 or less, you get a quality product, made locally.

Thank you for supporting a local company! :)

    Benjamin J Sperry
These masks are so easy to make! Why are yours so pricey?

There are different ways to make masks, - easy ways and more elaborate ways.

Our team put effort into testing over a dozen different mask designs.

Our decision was to create a mask without compromise for quality, comfort, durability and style.

We use only premium quality cotton, including an Organic Cotton layer for maximum comfort on the skin.

Over the last few weeks we provided thousands of masks for individuals, families and volunteers in non-profits.

Many 5-star reviews were written by people who discovered the comfort of wearing Revelle masks after trying other masks.

    Sizes

What is the difference between a Regular / Adult size mask and a Small size mask?

Revelle masks are available in Regular / Adult size and Small size.

Both sizes are designed with extra space to fit with comfort on the face.

Regular / Adult size mask dimensions:

    • Width: 5.25" (13.5cm) when folded in half
    • Height: 6.75" (17cm)

    Small size mask dimensions:

    • Width: 4.5" (11cm) when folded in half
    • Height: 5.5" (14cm)

Children and adults with petite features prefer the fit of a small mask.

Please keep in mind that because these masks are hand crafted, they might vary in size slightly. Because the masks are made from 100% cotton, after the first wash they might shrink by about 4%.

    Benjamin J Sperry
Would these masks fit children 7 and 9 years old?

Yes, our Small masks are designed for most children up to age 10.

They would also fit adults with petite faces.

    Small-size mask dimensions:

    • Width: 4.5" (11cm) when folded in half
    • Height: 5.5" (14cm)

    Regular-size mask dimensions:

    • Width: 5.25" (13.5cm) when folded in half
    • Height: 6.75" (17cm)

Please keep in mind that because these masks are hand crafted, they might vary in size slightly. Because the masks are made from 100% cotton, after the first wash they might shrink by about 4%.

    Benjamin J Sperry
Will the mask fit me the same way as shown in pictures?

Yes, the masks shown in our photos are the same as the mask you will receive. We offer Regular and Small sizes.

    mask sizes

One size fits all in most cases because our mask has flexibility within the straps. The tension may be adjusted to fit your head and face by tightening or loosening the straps. The cleverly concealed elastic is a great benefit. You can increase or decrease the tightness of the straps for comfort and eliminate any pressure points on your face, head, or neck.

For adults with smaller facial features, the Small mask will be a better fit.
